Magnatune Project Licence

Every Magnatune member can use our music in their projects. No haggling, no lawyers, no per-song fees: become a member for $10/month, $99/year or $299 for life.

What you can do

• Use any Magnatune recording in your projects, commercial or not: videos (YouTube, social media, online courses), films, podcasts, games, apps, websites, presentations and adverts.
• Use it in projects you make for your clients.
• Edit it to fit: cut it, loop it, fade it, and mix it under voice or picture.

How long it lasts

• Any project you release while you are a member is licensed for good, worldwide, even after your membership ends. You can keep distributing it and make minor edits to it.
• Lifetime members are covered for life.

What isn't allowed

• You cannot create or release new projects unless your membership is currently active.
• Passing the music on as music: selling, giving away, streaming or uploading the recordings on their own or as the main content (music services, sample or stock libraries, albums, ringtones, "relaxing music" channels).
• Claiming the music: registering it with YouTube Content ID or any other fingerprinting service, a collecting society or a distributor, or saying you wrote it.
• Training or building AI or machine-learning models with it.
• Suggesting an artist endorses your product, cause or political message, or using the music in hateful, defamatory or illegal content.
• TV or radio broadcast, cinema, and background music in shops, restaurants or on-hold lines are not included. For those, license the music directly from the musician, who keeps 100%: Use this form to directly contact the musician

Credit is required

Credit the music wherever your project lists credits, or in its description, for example: Music: Artist Name, "Track Name" (magnatune.com).

Proof, and content claims

Your account page shows your membership and the date it started: that is your proof of licence. If a platform flags your project, email us and we'll help clear it.

The fine print

• The musicians keep their copyright; Magnatune grants this licence under its agreements with them.
• The licence belongs to the member (or the member's company). It can't be transferred or sub-licensed, except to the clients you make projects for and the people who distribute your finished projects.
• Breaking these terms ends the licence for the projects involved.
• The music is provided as is. Magnatune's liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before a claim.

Not a member?

Non-commercial projects may use all Magnatune music under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 1.0 licence: credit the artist and Magnatune, and share alike.

Just want the music? Buy any album for $8 and download it as MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, OGG or WAV. 100% of your payment goes to the musician.
