Distinguished lutenist and guitarist Richard Savino explores the works Johann Mertz, a guitar virtuoso and composer who was active in Vienna in the mid-1800's. Mertz was known for following the pianistic rather than the classical model of composition, so his work is wonderfully intricate and highlights Savino's incredible dexterity as a player as well as his beautifully understated style. A deeply soothing and tender lullaby of an album.
