The best selling of all DJ Cary's compilations, Eastern Grooves has a friendly, mid-tempo groove throughout much of the album, making it ideal for work and after-work alike. Eastern influences are abundant, of course, and the overall sensibility here is a modern, cosmopolitan one interwoven with more timeless sounding material such as "Kereshme" by Stellamara. The subtle beats return with "Mirrored Image" by Cargo Cult—an irresistable track by Cargo Cult. Next comes the tabla seduction of "Dance of the Aisles" and the understated poetics of "Arabesque" by Hans Christian. We especially like the atmospheric "Waddi Jah" by Rapoon, which blends what sounds like 1920's Indian radio broadcasts with fizzy, floaty ambient loops.
