Spacious and starry, Seventythree is a mix of instrumental tracks and songs that feature the passionate yet reflective voice of Roland St. John, who has clearly been influenced by the likes of Pink Floyd and T Rex as much as he has Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream. "Long Trip To Evaporate" is an especially effective example of the former; it's stately and celebratory in an eccentric kind of way; it has the big, cosmic sound of this album as well as its more mysterious, ethereal qualities. St. John sounds especially good when he's not hard selling the vocals, such as on tracks like "Passing Cars" and "30 Miles"—a beautiful slice of trippy, rained out goodness.
